Tyva Kyzy
(Daughters of Tuva) are the one and only all-female Tuvan
throat-singing and folk music ensemble. Their unique music and
performance bring together female harmonic vocal techniques with
the rarely heard sounds of female throat-singing. The group has
masterfully performs with a wide range of traditional and
legendary folk instruments such as Igil, the horse headed fiddle,
Cha-Khomus, a large mouth harp and their signature instrument the
Chadagan which resembles a hammered dulcimer. The groups vividly
textured songs and colorful performance fill the audience with
energy and emotion and evoke the traditions and sonic landscapes
of Tuva with evocative and surprising sounds, humorous and tender
lullabies and thundering power! Tyva Kyzy brings a breath of fresh
air to the overtone rich melodies and natural rhythms of Tuvan
music.
These rare women throat-singers go far beyond novelty and shock
value.
They are outstanding musicians.
